Swabi: A one-day symposium titled “Redefining Diabetes Care in Ramadan” was held at the GKMC auditorium, organized by the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES). The event brought together leading experts to discuss diabetes management for individuals fasting during Ramadan.
The symposium featured Dr. Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, Consultant Endocrinologist at MTI-LRH, and Dr. Aqil Noor, Consultant Endocrinologist at NWGH, as key speakers. The session was moderated by Dr. Saima Zeb, Consultant Endocrinologist at DHQ Landi Kotal.
The panel of experts, including Prof. Dr. Shams-Ur-Rehman, Dean/CEO GKMC, Associate Professor Dr. Zubair, and Professor of Medicine Dr. Amjad Mahboob, provided valuable insights and guidance to the participants.
During the session, experts provided insights into safe fasting for diabetic patients, discussing dietary guidelines, when to break the fast, exercise recommendations, insulin management for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and adjustments for oral medications during Suhoor and Iftar.
HODs, Doctors, TMOs, HOs, and other healthcare professionals attended the symposium.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Dr. Shams-Ur-Rehman expressed appreciation for the Pakistan Endocrine Society’s efforts in organizing educational programs ahead of Ramadan. He highlighted the challenges in treating local diabetic patients and announced that GKMC/BKMC is in the process of hiring a Pediatric Endocrinologist to further enhance diabetes care services.
The symposium concluded with a question-and-answer session, where participants engaged directly with experts, making the event highly informative and beneficial for healthcare professionals and attendees.
