Fluoroscopy Unit – Radiology Department
The Fluoroscopy Unit of the Radiology Department at Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC), MTI Swabi provides real-time X-ray imaging to assist in the diagnosis and evaluation of various medical conditions and to guide selected diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Unlike conventional X-rays, fluoroscopy provides continuous, real-time images of internal structures and their movement. A controlled X-ray beam is used to produce live images on a monitor, while contrast material may be administered orally, through injection, or by other appropriate routes to improve visualization of specific organs and structures.
Fluoroscopy Services
The unit provides fluoroscopic examinations and procedures as clinically indicated and other fluoroscopy-guided examinations as advised by the treating team
Fluoroscopy may also be used to guide selected procedures, depending on the clinical requirement and availability of specialist services.
Patient Safety
Patient safety is a key priority during fluoroscopic examinations. Radiation exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable, with imaging parameters adjusted according to the patient’s size and the requirements of the examination. Appropriate patient preparation, contrast safety assessment, and monitoring are undertaken according to the type of procedure.
The Fluoroscopy Unit works closely with Radiology, Urology, Gastroenterology, Surgery, and other clinical specialties to support timely diagnosis and appropriate patient management.
As part of BKMC’s tertiary healthcare services, the unit provides specialized diagnostic imaging for both outpatient and inpatient patients, supporting the hospital’s commitment to accurate diagnosis, safe procedures, and quality patient care.
