Lithotripsy Unit – Urology Department

The Lithotripsy Unit of the Urology Department at Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC), MTI Swabi provides non-invasive treatment for selected kidney and ureteric stones using Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL).

ESWL uses focused shock waves to break urinary stones into smaller fragments, which can then pass naturally through the urine. The procedure provides a non-surgical treatment option for appropriately selected patients and may help avoid more invasive stone removal procedures.

The unit works in coordination with the Urology and Radiology Departments for appropriate patient assessment, imaging, treatment, and follow-up.
