Swabi: A one-day symposium on FIGO’s Leadership Development Initiative: Removing Barriers to Effective Access and Coverage of Maternal Healthcare (LDI: REACH) was held at the BKMC-MTI Swabi Auditorium on January 17, 2025. Organized in collaboration with the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, BKMC, and the SOGP Swabi Chapter.
The symposium aimed to enhance the skills of Gynecology and Obstetrics professionals, equipping them to overcome barriers in maternal healthcare. Participants from BKMC and DHQ engaged in hands-on sessions on managing PPH with the Emotive PPH Bundle and explored strategies from FIGO’s LDI: REACH initiative.
The event was moderated by Dr. Saima Zubair, with Dr. Sidra Anees serving as the focal person, ensuring the event’s smooth organization and execution.
Keynote speakers included Prof. Dr. Aziz-U-Nisa, Prof. Dr. Amera Takreem, Prof. Dr. Seema Gul, Assistant Prof. Dr. Sara Gul, Prof. Dr. Bakht Rana, and Prof. Dr. Zile Huma. These esteemed experts delivered insightful presentations on critical topics, such as Leadership Development, the Emotive PPH Bundle, and the application of Magnesium Sulfate (MgSO₄) in managing severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia.
During the symposium, an in-depth analysis of local data on PPH from Swabi was presented, offering valuable insights into regional challenges. Advanced techniques, including Vaginal Vault Suspension using the AZ Technique and the Role of Balloon Tamponade in PPH management, were also discussed, providing practical solutions for improving maternal healthcare practices.
The Dean/CEO, Hospital Director, and Medical Director of BKMC warmly welcomed the participants and keynote speakers. They commended the organizers for their efforts in hosting such a valuable symposium and assured their full support for similar initiatives in the future.
At the end of the exhibition, the guest speakers, accompanied by the BKMC Gynae/Obs team, visited the newly established NICU and highly commended the services provided there.
