One-Day Training Session on "Changing Diabetes in Children" Held at BKMC-MTI, Swabi.

A full-day training session on “Changing Diabetes in Children (CDiC)” was successfully conducted at the Auditorium Hall of Bacha Khan Medical Complex-MTI, Swabi, in collaboration with the Health Promotion Foundation.

The session focused on the practical management of Type 1 Diabetes, equipping healthcare professionals with updated knowledge and hands-on strategies to improve care for children living with diabetes.

The event was graced by leading experts from Karachi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while more than 50 paediatrics consultants and doctors from Swabi participated in the session.

The program began with a project overview presented by Mr. Ubaid-e-Yazdan. Dr. Umar Yousaf Raja, Joint Secretary of the Pakistan Endocrine Society (PES), delivered an in-depth session on Type 1 Diabetes, covering its diagnosis, challenges, and potential solutions.

Prof. Dr. Arshad Hussain shared his insights on the management of Type 1 Diabetes, focusing on hypoglycaemia and insulin dose adjustments. Mrs. Mahvish Sheraz discussed real-life scenarios and practical strategies related to diet and lifestyle for children living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Dr. Musarrat Riaz highlighted complications and co-morbidities, along with the management of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA). Ms. Erum Ghafoor, Project Manager for CDIC, spoke about the educational aspects of Type 1 Diabetes, emphasizing awareness and capacity-building. Dr. Aqil Noor addressed the management of hypoglycaemia in children, while Dr. Qadeer Ahmad delivered a session on self-monitoring of blood glucose and target-setting.

The session saw active participation from paediatricians who engaged in discussions and Q&A segments. Experts responded thoroughly to all queries, making the training highly interactive and impactful. With the rising prevalence of Type 1 Diabetes in children, the session highlighted the urgent need for early prevention, timely diagnosis, and education.

GKMC/BKMC-MTI management extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire CDiC team for their commitment and dedication in conducting such a fruitful and impactful training session.

The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to all participants in recognition of their active participation and commitment to improving the care of children with Type 1 Diabetes.
