KP’s first Public “Thalassemia Center” Inaugurated in Swabi.
SWABI: Swabi Thalassemia Centre was inaugurated in Chota Lahor tehsil headquarters hospital here on Friday.
Health minister Taimur Saleem Jhagra was chief guest at the inaugural ceremony, which was also attended by provincial minister Shahram Tarakai and officials of the provincial health department.
The officials said that about 100 patients had been registered with the Centre so far and blood was transfused into 21 patients on this occasion.
The health minister said the Centre would be beneficial for the local patients as they would no longer need to visit Peshawar for blood transfusion.
The officials said that thalassemia patients required continued treatment and timely blood transfusions for entire life and this Centre would be very beneficial for them.
After the inauguration, a detailed briefing about the center was given to the health minister, ex-speaker, and education minister. Additional hospital director Doctor Hamid Ali Khan briefed the forum that until now more than 100 thalassemia patients have been registered with the center and 21 patients were facilitated before the inauguration. He said that around 100 blood donors registered themselves and donated blood to the center yet. AHD went on to say that for smooth running we sent our staff to Peshawar KMU and trained them.
The health minister during his visit to the center, appreciated the efforts of the district administration and MTI Swabi in establishing the Thalassemia Center, health minister assured the management of any kind of cooperation and support. Taimur Jaghra said to provide the best health care facility to the people is the prime focus of the KP govt.
On this occasion, former speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaisar said that a children’s hospital and nursing college is under construction and a separate building for a medical college would be started next week this development will make Swabi a medical city soon. Asad Qaisar appreciated the efforts being made by MTI management and district administration.
KP education minister Shahram Tarakai said that the Thalassemia Center is a blessing for the people of Swabi where thalassemia patients used to go to another city for blood transfusions. Shahram Khan assured the management of assistance at every forum.
