BKMC-MTI, Swabi 𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐒𝐳𝐞𝐝 𝐚 π’πžπ¬π¬π’π¨π§ 𝐨𝐧 β€œWorld AIDS Day”

Swabi: The Medical Directorate, in collaboration with the Infectious Diseases Department, organized an awareness session at Bacha Khan Medical Complex (BKMC-MTI), Swabi, on World AIDS Day. Observed annually on December 1st, World AIDS Day aims to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and combat the associated stigma.

According to spokesperson of BKMC-MTI, the session focused on enhancing knowledge and addressing the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS among clinical staff. The Medical Director Dr. Shahid Nisar Khalid and Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Amjad Mahboob were key speakers, said spokesperson

During the session, Dr. Amjad Mahboob highlighted the global, national, and regional impact of HIV/AIDS and shared details about the hospital’s ongoing efforts in establishing the HIV Family Care Center (HCC).

He stated that 201 HIV/AIDS patients have been registered so far, receiving free screening, testing, and treatment with the support of the Global Fund. He added that the center is open for consultation services every Tuesday and Friday.

Infectious Diseases Specialist Dr. Amjad Mahboob emphasized that treating HIV patients is still a significant challenge in our society, largely due to social stigma. He called for increased awareness sessions, informative programs, and collective efforts to eradicate this stigma.

Medical Director Dr. Shahid Nisar Khalid provided valuable insights for clinicians on preventing HIV transmission during surgeries and, Blood Transfusion etc. He stressed the importance of using fully sterilized equipment and urged the medical community to take an active role in raising awareness and fighting against HIV.

The session was attended by all HoDs, Acting HD, and other administrative officers. A Question & Answer session followed, during which Dr. Amjad Mahboob addressed queries raised by the participants.
