Swabi: Hospital Director (HD) BKMC-MTI, Dr. Khalid Masud visited the newly established Newborn Care Unit, accompanied by HoD Paediatrics, Prof. Dr. Sajjad-Ur-Rehman, Focal Person for SSP, and the Manager Facilities. The visit aimed to assess progress and identify deficiencies in the unit.
Prof. Dr. Sajjad-Ur-Rehman briefed Dr. Khalid Masud on the unit’s requirements, emphasizing the need for qualified IPC nurses and additional staff to achieve full operational capacity.
In response, Dr. Khalid Masud directed the manager facilities to ensure necessary equipment provision and noted that nurse recruitment is underway, with the nursing shortage expected to be resolved soon.
The visit also served as part of the preparations for the unit’s inauguration, which aims to establish a state-of-the-art Newborn Care Unit aligned with international neonatal care guidelines.
Additionally, Dr. Khalid Masud issued on-the-spot directives to janitorial services, stressing the importance of maintaining 24/7 cleanliness and hygiene in the unit, with no compromises.
The 46-bed Newborn Care Unit, situated next to the labour room at BKMC-MTI, with support from UNICEF, features:
- An isolation unit
- A High Dependency Unit (HDU)
- Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC)
- A mother Room
