Swabi: The BKMC-MTI, Swabi team visited Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) to observe and learn from their Emergency Department services. The BKMC team, led by Director Emergency, included Bed Management Officer, Duty Managers, Nursing Manager, Manager Maintenance Security In-Charge, Pharmacists, Media Officer, and two representatives from affiliated teaching hospitals, THQ Topi and THQ Lahor.
Medical Director LRH, Dr. Hamid Shahzad, warmly received and welcomed the team to the Emergency Department. Dr. Hamid Shahzad provided a detailed briefing about their healthcare services, trauma control, emergency filtration, and the triage area. He then guided the team through a comprehensive tour of the Emergency Department, including the Admission Unit, Trauma Room, Triage Area, and other key units. During the tour, Dr. Shahzad explained how LRH manages mass emergencies and handles patient flow in the department.
The LRH team also discussed the patient referral system and shared insights on strengthening Emergency Department services. They appreciated BKMC’s efforts in patient referrals, noting an 80% improvement in controlling referral cases.
After the briefing, the BKMC team split into their respective areas of interest for further observation and detailed rounds, focusing on bed management, nursing management, Medical & Surgical Units, Pharmacy operations, and security surveillance. Each team member closely observed the workflows to understand the smooth functioning of the Emergency Department.
The LRH Emergency consultants also offered to provide the BKMC team with comprehensive training in Basic Life Support (BLS), Special Care Life Support (SCLS), Basic Emergency Care, and the Golden Hour Course.
After the visit, BKMC’s Director of Emergency, Dr. Razik Shah, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Hamid Shahzad and the entire LRH team for their valuable time and the informative briefing on the provision of healthcare services in the Emergency Department.
