Swabi: A workshop on “Disease Burden and Management of Thalassemia in Children” was organized jointly by the Pakistan Pediatric Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PPA KP) and the Department of Pediatric GKMC/GKMC-MTI Swabi.

This was a preconference Workshop of the “26th Biennial International Pediatrics Conference” to be held in Karachi on 28th Oct 2022. The Chief Guest of the workshop was Member BOG MTI GKMC and Guest Speaker was Dr. Malik Tahir Assistant Professor of Pediatrics Hematology/Oncology LRH Peshawar.

Dr. Sajjad Ur Rahman HOD Pediatrics GKMC/BKMC-MTI discussed the disease burden and general introduction of Thalassemia. Dr. Haji Gul AP Pediatrics presented the diagnostic approach to Thalassemia. Dr. Malik Tahir Discuss the management, recent update, and role of Bone Marrow Transplant in Thalassemia.

The workshop was attended by Faculty members, Nurses, and Pediatrics Residents. MTI THQ Lahor/Swabi Thalassemia Center team led by Dr. Hamid Ali Additional HD THQ Lahor also attended the workshop. Dr. Tufail Muhammad Member BOG and Hospital Director BKMC-MTI Dr. Amjad Mahboob concluded the session and thanked the participants and guests. General Secretary PPA-KPK Dr. Bawar Shah and Assistant commissioner Lahor Ms. Labiqa Akram also attended the session.

At the end of the workshop, a cake-cutting ceremony was held in the office of Dean & CEO GKMC/BKMC Prof. Dr. Shams Ur Rahman in celebration of 100 safe transfusions at Swabi Thalassemia Center MTI THQ Lahor.
